Akwaeke is one out of the series of folklore stories my mother told me. She talks about a child, who lost her mother and was left in the care of her step-mother who once loved her but was poisoned by her wicked friend Mgbeorie.
Akwaeke amidst every pain she endured, maintained her innocence and humility and in the end, it changed her fate.
This story is part of the seasons-series I call ” Stories my mother told me”. As a child sitting beside mom, dad and grandma, listening to these stories made my child hood and gave me a strong sense of cultural identity.
I hope every child get the luxury of learning as i did, through stories rooted in culture, identity and love.
